How to Download and Set Up Phone Wallpapers on iPhone and Android

Downloaded phone wallpapers often arrive as a ZIP file. Before you can choose one as your background, download the ZIP, extract the images, and open the wallpaper settings on your phone. This guide walks through those steps for iPhone and Android.

Using our Pointillist Ink Phone Wallpapers — 6-Piece Set? Your download contains six PNG artworks at 1766 × 3840 pixels, packaged in three ZIP files: red, yellow, and blue-green, with two wallpapers in each palette. This is a digital product; no physical item is shipped.

1. Download your wallpaper files

After successful payment, look for the download email sent to the address you used at checkout. Open its download link and save each ZIP you want to use. Wait for the download to finish before opening it.

If you cannot find the email, check your spam or junk folder and confirm which email address you entered at checkout. For order-specific help, use our Contact page and include your order number and a short description of the problem. Never send a password or payment card details.

2. Extract the PNG images from the ZIP

On iPhone

Open the Files app and locate the downloaded ZIP, often in a Downloads folder. Tap the ZIP to create a folder containing its files, then open that folder. You should now see the individual PNG images. Repeat for the other color palettes you downloaded. See Apple’s ZIP file instructions if you need help finding or opening the archive.

On Android

Use your phone’s file manager if it supports ZIP extraction. If you already use Files by Google, open it, locate and select the ZIP, then choose Extract and Done. The extracted files are saved alongside the ZIP. See Google’s unzip instructions. Keep the original ZIP until you have checked the images.

A ZIP is a container, not a wallpaper image. Select one of the extracted PNGs when setting your background. You do not need to buy a wallpaper subscription to use these files.

3. Set a wallpaper on iPhone

  1. Open an extracted PNG in Files. Use the image’s sharing or file menu to save it to Photos; the option may be called Save Image. Check Photos to confirm it is there.
  2. Go to Settings → Wallpaper → Add New Wallpaper, then select Photos and choose your saved image.
  3. Adjust the image in the preview. Check that the main artwork sits comfortably around the clock and widgets, then tap Add.
  4. Choose Set as Wallpaper Pair for both screens, or Customize Home Screen to adjust the Home Screen separately.

Menu names can vary by software version. Apple’s wallpaper guide explains the available controls.

4. Set a wallpaper on Android

Android menus differ by phone maker and software version. Look for wallpaper controls in Settings or by touching and holding an empty area of your Home Screen.

On a Google Pixel, for example:

  1. Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen, then open Wallpapers & style.
  2. Open Change wallpaper or More wallpapers, depending on the screen shown, and use Choose a photo to select your extracted PNG.
  3. Check the preview and choose the Home Screen, Lock Screen, or both where those options are available, then apply it.

See Google’s Pixel wallpaper instructions. On other Android phones, follow the equivalent options for choosing an image from your files or photo library.

5. Adjust the crop and check readability

Phones have different screen shapes, so some cropping is normal. Start with the full downloaded PNG and avoid zooming in more than needed. Preview both screens: the Lock Screen clock and Home Screen icons may cover different parts of the artwork. Move the image until the details you want remain visible.

Use the original PNG rather than a screenshot of a shop preview. Keep a copy of the original so you can try another crop later. Colors and framing may look different across devices and display settings.

Common download and setup problems

  • The phone will not accept the ZIP: extract it first, then select a PNG.
  • The image looks blurry: check that you selected the downloaded PNG rather than a preview screenshot, and reduce excessive zoom.
  • Extraction fails: make sure the download finished and your device has free storage. Try downloading again over a stable connection, or extract it on a computer you already use.
  • The image is missing from the wallpaper picker: on iPhone, confirm it was saved to Photos. On Android, check the extracted folder through the picker’s files or photo options.
